5 Products to help baby sleep

My top 5 products for a good night’s sleep

{with Kippins}

Gro Blind

Over-tired babies are sometimes hard to spot. They can present as wired or hyper, and commonly fight sleep. Creating a quiet, dark environment for your little one to take their naps and night sleep is ideal. I use and highly recommend the Gro blind for travel and home use, to create a dark environment that promotes sleep.

Kippins Cuddle Blanket

I absolutely love the use of a cuddle blankie as a comforter for little ones. Unlike many other sleep props I do not find blankies like the Kippins become problematic for sleep. They are a great sleep cue, providing familiarity when in different places and for many little ones they play a positive role in sleep transitions.

White Noise

I love the use of soft white noise when it comes to noisy households. White noise can be ideal when you have other children in the house or if the location of their room is near a lot of traffic. I generally tell clients to keep white noise low and to make sure it’s soft in nature. I typically advise against white noise in the form of constant shushing or static.

Gro Clock

Gro clocks can be a great tool to help you get your toddler to stay in their bed until a more reasonable time of the morning. The catch? You have to commit to it. Often the novelty of a GRO clock isn’t enough to stop early morning waking, unless you put boundaries in place that ensure your little one sticks to it. Positive enforcement such as a rewards chart can be a great addition when first introducing the Gro clock.

Swaddles and Sleeping Bags

Infants up to 3-4 months old generally respond really well to being swaddled. Swaddling newborns plays a role in helping them feel secure and can prevent them from being disturbed by their immature startle reflex (The moro reflex). I recommend transitioning to arms out at around 4 months of age, then into a sleeping bag from there.

Sleeping bags or sleep sacks are a great way to feel confident in providing a safe sleep space whilst keeping your little one warm. It allows them the independence of movement around the cot and you the peace of mind that they are still covered.
